Lock & Mortice

Emergence

A Peaceful Retreat

We’ve had the honour of collaborating alongside our friends at Lock & Mortice for years. We were initially approached by their team to help imagine their installation for The Interior Design Show Vancouver. Our task began with a narrative development process that delved into the psyche of our audience, aiming to craft a multisensory experience that would evoke the desired emotions as they navigated the space. Through exploration and visual research, our concept matured into a peaceful retreat. Envisioning a luxurious lake house, our design sought harmony with the environment, blending the sprawling beauty of nature with Lock & Mortice's precision in craftsmanship.

Working with Light

A critical element of our design was the innovative use of light. In pursuit of a minimalist space, traditional lighting was traded in favour of the comfort of natural sunlight. The illusion of an open skylight reinforced our narrative while providing a beautiful solution to guiding the viewer’s eye towards the Deka Console. Now that the space was surrounded by nature, nature had to be brought into the space. We created a bold sense that the natural world was growing into the lake house, living harmoniously with the decor rather than competing for attention. La Bomba Floristry provided lush, local florals steeped in reds, pinks, and oranges, acting as a captivating accent to L&M’s design.
